An Extended Case of the Blahs

Yeah. Blah blah blah. I hate it when you're talking to someone and to fill in the rest of the story they blah blah blah. Really? Am I supposed to know that that means? Well, I have had a case of the blah blah blahs which means I haven't felt like doing anything at all, including blogging.

My last two months have been so busy, I really deserve to sit back and have a case of the blahs, as long as I don't feel too sorry for myself whilst being blah.

At the end of Feb. my SIL and her cute baby girl came out to stay wit us for 3 weeks. We ran the Disney Princess 1/2 Marathon. I finished in under 3 hours, which was what I was shooting for. I would've finished at around 2:45, but had to wait in line for the restroom, twice. My knees and the medical issues I have with my feet caused me to want to quit at mile 8. Seriously. It hurt so much to run, but hurt even more to stop running. It was not a good feeling. BUT...we had so much fun. For starters, we had to get up at 3am to catch a bus to Epcot for the start. P.S. We didn't start our run until around 6:30am. P.S.S. Neither one of us could sleep that night and were lucky if we caught 3 hours of zzzzz's. P.S.S.S. Running 13.1 miles on little to no sleep is not fun. P.S.S.S.S. blah blah blah (sorry, just had to throw that in there) There were so many women dressed up as princesses, and a few courageous men accompanying them dressed as villains. The funniest thing was seeing the amount of women who decided they had to "use it" before the race while we were lined up and waiting in the FREEZING COLD (a whole different story). Instead of crossing the street to the wooded area, or walking the 200 yards to the port-a-potties, they headed to the ditch, nearest the roadway full of passing cars, dropped trou, squatted and did their business giving everyone a nice view of the full moon.

After recovering for a day, we headed back to Disney World, many times during the next few weeks. I finally had a chance to do the Rockin' RollerCoaster. Man is that a great ride or what?!?!

The kids and I headed to the beach for spring break. Since this was a last minute decision for me, I could find no where to stay on our favorite island and settled instead for Ft. Myers. Never again. Too much traffic, too many people, too much of my children bickering for no apparent reason, too many jellyfish, too much algae or sea weed that really stunk the place up, blah blah blah. Ana Maria Island I'm so sorry for forsaking you. I promise. We will be back next month.

I arouse early the last day of spring break, which for some odd reason was the Mon after having the full previous week off (I should've played dumb and dropped the kids off at school that morning anyways just to get rid of them...see ya' at 3:00 suckers) to watch the launch of the space shuttle. There are only 3 or 4 more launches scheduled and the program will end. A sad day indeed. As I stood out in the back yard at 6:20am having only gone to bed at 3:00am, I was wondering where it was. Suddenly, the horizon turned a brilliant orange and I thought, "hmmmm...I thought the sun came up a little further east from there" and then realized, "HOLY COW...that is the light from the shuttle!!!" It literally lit up the entire horizon. Such an amazing site. I captured it on video, but it really isn't as grand to view that way. I will upload it eventually for your viewing pleasure however. I promise. Now I need to check the launch schedule to make sure we will be around for one of the last ones. I will be dragging my kids out of bed very early to make the drive to Cape Canaveral to watch. They will love me for doing that.

I went to Glenn Beck's American Revival a few weekends ago. Wade was supposed to go with me, but wouldn't you know it, they just had to schedule the Pine Wood Derby for that day. P.S. Jacob won in the cub scout division and took 2nd over all. Glenn was AMAZING!! I took a friend from church and we had a great time. Arriving at the campus we followed the yellow event parking signs that led to the fraternity housing area. Many cars were parking in the fraternity lots. We both had a bad feeling about that. I even pulled into one, but seeing the tow away zone signs figured I didn't want to risk it even if the parking signs pointed to that direction. The three parking garages we had passed all said FULL. We drove around for 1/2 hour trying to find a place to park. We couldn't get through to the main arena for parking because they had a road blocked off. So, I pulled into one of the parking garages anyways and guess what? It wasn't full at all. Maybe 20 cars parked on the first level alone. Weird. (Very glad we listened to our "guts" and didn't park in the fraternity lots...click HERE to see why.) We walked to the arena where much to our surprise we were all put stripped searched for entry (not really but we did get a thorough search through bags/purses and wanded...more than they often do at airports...hmmmm) Another surprise. I had somehow purchased premium tickets meaning we sat in a great area, had padded seats, and had use of the lounge. Taking use to buy some water and use the restroom in the lounge who did I run into but Glenn himself. I actually got to talk with him for a quick minute, he gave me a big bear hug, and was off. I did run into him there one more time when I went back out for more water (good thing I was so thirsty) as he was getting ready to enter for his key note address. He had decided at the last minute to use that entrance so it was just sheer luck to run into him again. I didn't say anything to him, but did get a picture that time. Now, my friend and I struck up a conversation with the young man sitting next to us. He was an interesting looking guy, all tatted up, and so I started out by asking him about his tatts. I thought maybe he was military, but no, he was a philosophy major who loved everything about Beck except his stupid religion. hahahahaha Can you just imagine how much he felt like he had stepped in it when I casually asked "why, what part of it don't you like" and proceeded to tell him we were both members of Glenn's faith? He learned about Joseph Smith, the restoration of the gospel through Smith, the pre-existence (which he believed in too) and was left with the challenge to actually read the BofM before making up his mind about its validity. My friend and I both feel he will read it simply as a matter of trying to prove to himself that he is right, and hopefully will end up knowing how wrong he really was.

We are finally a three car family!!! Can I tell you how excited this makes me? I no longer have to drive the kids to and from school. That saves me 2 hours a day of driving around. I didn't know what to do with all of my free time the first day...yeah right!!! It is great having another driver in the family. However, I couldn't help but wonder where the years have gone. I still vividly remember dropping Kyrie off for her first day of kindergarten. I got a little teary eyed, I'll admit it. Now she's going off to prom this weekend, getting her class ring today, and will be graduating next year. How did that happen? Yeah...I know....blah blah blah.

I Met Glenn Beck!!!

Got to met and talk to Glenn Beck today at his American Revival tour. Then he gave me a big bear hug. Very cool. Will blog about the experience and the young man sitting next to my friend and I later. Let's just say...it was an amazing day.

It's A Small World After All

Last Thur. I felt very strongly that I needed to go back to DC yet once again. My DH wasn't really on board with it. "It won't matter to them." I know, I know. But it matters to me, to our children, to our future grand-children, and to all freedom loving Americans. So Fri. I booked my ticket. I was sick, had little to no voice because of my cold, hadn't slept much for the past week because I've been so stuffy, but I dragged my sleepy butt out of bed at 4:30am to make my flight in Orlando.

On the bus from the airport the excitement was palpable. There were many of us heading to the Capitol to protest. A few rolled their eyes at us and I couldn't help but want to smack them, but I refrained. "Go ahead and give your liberties and freedoms away," I thought, "I will not do so." The bus had to stop early because of the road closures due to the event, so we headed to the Metro. On the Metro a mom about my age got on with her young son and sign in hand. She sat across from me so we started to chat.

"You were here on 9-12 with your four children, by yourself, from Florida, weren't you? You went to the Holocaust Museum after the rally?" she asked. I was floored. Out of the millions of people there that day in Sept. and the hundreds I happened to speak to, she was one of them, and she remembered me. We parted ways after the Metro, but later that day around 4:30 I ran into her again. She wanted to know if I was staying for Sun. too. "No, my SIL is visiting me from UT so I need to head back tonight." She looked at me and said, "You're LDS aren't you?" "Yes," I answered, "and you must be too or you would've asked me if I was Mormon."

Yes, she is LDS too, lived in Jacksonville until a few months ago, and now lives in TN. Her husband is and ENT. She has 5 children, the youngest a beautiful little boy they adopted from China while her husband was there performing cleft lip repairs. He was one of the young children that he did surgery on. We continued talking and imagine both of our shock when we figured out that we had both lived in Pocatello and went to the same schools. She moved away when she was 12 and is 3 years older than me, but we know many of the same people.

I can only think that God's hand was in on us meeting up again, because really, what are the chances? We have FaceBook friended each other and are excited to keep in touch.

Another woman that I met that day was also quite remarkable. As I was sitting on the steps to the Longworth Office Building I noticed her looking through a book that someone had compiled of the many Tea Party Rallies, and had it published. It was simply pictures of the many people and their signs. We started talking about it and she let me look at it. In all honesty, if I had looked at her and not taken the time to talk with her, my first impression of her would've lead me to believe she was a homeless bagwoman. She was in multiple layers of dirty clothes, her hair was matted and very oily looking, covered in a hair net. She had poor dental care and was obviously not a wealthy person in terms of monetary, but she was smart, intelligent, well spoken, and there fighting for her freedoms and liberties. She could've so easily been one of the many looking to the gov't for a hand out, but no, she works two jobs and came in from Maryland for the protest. Her sign really drew my attention too. It was a crudely hand written one that said, "Read Ayn Rand and learn," or something very similar to that. As I had finally started reading Atlas Shrugged a few weeks ago, we talked for a very long time about the book. She told me a bit about her family and we talked about high german and swiss german. It was truly and amazing experience that has further ingrained into me "Don't judge a book by it's cover."

I know this monstrosity passed and has been signed into law by a Congress and President who don't care about the Constitution of our great land. But do not give up hope. They have won one battle, the war is not yet over.

Here is a FB message I received from an old college friend today. It brought tears to my eyes and made me know that I did the right thing in being there, for the 3rd time, even if "they" didn't listen.

"Chris,

Just wanted to let you know I went to dinner last week with a buddy of mine. His girlfriend was in D.C. on vacation getting ready to take a cruise.

She called him during dinner and went on and on about how she had walked into a tea party protest and how cool it was and how much she wished she had the courage to have done that for a vacation instead of the cruise.

I told my buddy that I knew someone who was there and who attended many of the rallies. Both him and his girlfriend said to say thankyou and keep up the fight. "

And those stories are really the reason I was there. We are America. We love our freedoms and liberties no matter how different our backgrounds and experiences. As we surrounded the Capitol building and had a prayer I couldn't help but think if we could bring God back into our gov't all would be okay. "One Nation, Under God, Indivisible." So that really is the battle, for with God, all things are possible.

The Power of Positive Thinking

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can

My motto while running. I really hate distance running, but my training for the past two months has allowed me to run over 300 miles in that time. Now that is really the power of positive thinking. Here are some "rough" stats.

300 miles
65 hours
36000 calories burned
ONLY 5 pounds lost

How can that be? All of that effort and time, blood sweat and tears and I only lose 5 pounds. I sure hope my finisher medal is worth it!!

EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT
Whoops. I thin my math is getting a little fuzzy. I have to redo my numbers here. I've run an average of 15 miles a week for 2 months. That is only 120 miles. Dang I was getting lofty. So 120 miles give or take means 26 hours and 14,400 calories but still only 5 pounds. Whew. That much math gives me a headache worse than running 10 miles.

The Real Power of Nookie

The other day while listening to the radio the DJ's were talking about women and their tendancies towards men. One of the questions was "What percentage of women have used sex to get something they want?" Easy...at least 98% right? WRONG!! The answer was 9%. WTH? To the other 91% of you LIARS I say...what's up? Do you not know the real power of nookie? Or are you just lying?

My good friend calls herself the tax whore. Her husband was 3 years behind in filing their tax returns. Taking matters into her own hands she promised one night of wonderful nookie for each year of returns done and mailed. Guess what? The taxes were done in record time. Me? Let's just say I know how to work it to get what I want. That would include new furniture, new cars, or even something as simple as getting the dishes done by someone other than myself. REally, it doesn't take much. My husband knows a happy momma is a the answer to lots of nookie and sometimes it only takes cleaning the kitchen for me to be happy.

So, I say to the 91% of ladies who have never used sex to get something they want...you haven't realized the real power of nookie. You are giving it up far too frequently and/or freely without the benefit of the perks that come along. Men are push overs!!! Give them some good nookie and they will promise you the world. Seize the power of nookie and work it baby!!
